DeepMed was born from a shared conviction: meaningful innovation in healthcare requires more than technology alone. It demands deep clinical understanding, rigorous product development, and applied AI expertise working in concert.
One early source of inspiration was Eric Topol's book Deep Medicine, which Emre read shortly after its publication in 2019 and then passed on to Efe. The book makes a compelling case that AI can lead to dramatically better healthcare. It was not the only reason DeepMed came to life, but it helped shape the vision behind the company and its name.
Our journey began as a partnership between clinicians and researchers from University Hospital Zurich (USZ) and seasoned data and IT professionals, uniting frontline clinical insight with the engineering discipline needed to build AI solutions that clinicians can trust.
Together, we set out to help healthcare organisations harness artificial intelligence where it matters most: reducing administrative burden, strengthening clinical workflows, and giving care teams more time for their patients.

Meet Our Team
MSc. ETH Emre Akyol
Emre holds a Master's degree in Management, Technology, and Economics and a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, both from ETH Zurich. He has extensive experience in developing digital products for medical applications and brings deep technical knowledge to DeepMed's product development.

Efe holds a PhD in Management, Technology, and Economics and a Master's degree in Electrical Engineering and Information Technology from ETH Zurich. He brings strong business acumen and strategic thinking to DeepMed, focusing on market development and business strategy in the healthcare technology sector.

Dr. Joonas Asikainen
Joonas holds a PhD in computational physics from Helsinki University of Technology and completed postdoctoral research at ETH Zurich. He brings more than 20 years of experience in data science, algorithm design, and software engineering, with a strong track record of building production-grade AI and analytics systems. At DeepMed, he leads technology as CTO, combining deep technical expertise with entrepreneurial experience, including two successful startup exits.
